This unit was tacked on a SP/SSW B39/40-8 order. Later modifications included extended handrails that bent from the top of the nose to the floor and a towing chain along the front truck.

I wonder why the DOE had an intermodal loco for moving simple loads around SRS? I know they've also got an GP60 there. Both these types are for high-speed service. Nice that they both were equipped with cab a/c.
