The N&W train is the old Wabash Orland Park commuter train, which began as a three-car affair out of Dearborn Station. By the time the N&W moved over to Union, the train was up to eight cars, all ex-N&W Pocahontas equipment. For a time after the merger, the cars were painted Wabash blue, but later went back to Tuscan red. The N&W used any type of hood unit in the summer, even their BiCentennial SD45 in 1976, but GP40s eventually became the norm. After the Metra takeover, and the application of two trains of F40s with BiLevels, the N&W cars were leased to Conrail for the Valpariso trains, until Amtrak took over providing that service.
