I have to agree with Terry's comments above and I'd also like to add that every time I see a photo of the "original" Norfolk Southern, I can't help but wonder who would have ever thought or dreamed that this very name would eventually "marry" the Norfolk & Western and Southern Railways and become a mega Class One railroad?? One also has to wonder if the Southern Railway was already thinking or talking about a merger with the N&W and was more interested in obtaining the NS name than the assets and business of the railroad when they purchased it in 1974??
