Yep, the taper of the wheel is doing it's job letting the outside wheel flange hug the rail for the larger radius while the inside wheel rides lower on the taper to get the smaller radius to let the solid axle make that curve. I've never seen it demonstrated so nicely with that gap rather obvious.
