I remember when the Pooches ran on the IC. This is North Bound and by the shadows appears to be in the morning, does anyone have an idea what train this could be? I'm thinking the Illini.

I'd guess the same thing. 1979.. the Illini may have had more cars back then vs. the 3-4 you see today. 'Course.. we now have the Saluki too. Don't think this would have been the City of New Orleans as there would have been more than one locomotive and likely a dome car. Those locos weren't very attractive, but to each his own..

Dan, I am just seeing this great photo of AMTK 717 taken in 1979. Very nice. I would disagree with the other comments about this being the Illini. In those days the Illini only ran between Chicago & Champaign. I suspect it is either the City of New Orleans or the Shawnee. There is an outside chance it was the National Limited, but that service to Effingham stopped the same year this picture was taken. Again, great classic photo!

This is the Panama Limited. The City didn't have domes until 1984. At this point in its life, 58/59 ran with a baggage car, one sleeper, an Amfleet I dinette, and Amfleet I coaches.
