Judging by the paint scheme, this was EMD 3.

Very nice catch. This locomotive is actually the former EMD 3 which has now been renumbered and lettered as GTMX #9041. The old Oakway #9041 was swapped for the EMD #3 many years ago so EMD could use the production model SD60 for test purposes. This is the only SD60 to be equiped with HTCR radial trucks.

EMDX 3 was recently renumbered to GMTX 9041, it remains the only SD60 rebuilt with radial trucks.

The answer is that this IS EMD 3. The original EMD 9041 was taken out of service to be used as a test bed at Pueblo, CO. EMD 3 was then substituted in for 9041 to keep the Oakway fleet at 100. Now EMD 3 has been renumbered to 9041 so that it fits back in to the Oakway numbering series.

I don't know for sure, but it looks to me that this just might be EMDX 3 now working for a new owner. It sports EMD's demonstrator paint scheme which is different than the Oakway leasing scheme. As far as know, there is only one SD60 with radial trucks in the demo paint. The whole package (SD60, radial trucks , and demo paint) make it super rare and I think it is awsome looking! Thanks for getting a good clear picture of it and for posting it.

Only four SD60's ever got this paint scheme and that was the four EMD demonstrators. EMD 3 was the original test bed for these radial trucks and the only standard cab SD60 to ever have them. EMD 3 was also involved in a grade crossing accident a while back and that's why the blue paint on the nose, pilot and step wells look a little better then the rest. The real question your photo brings is, what happened to ex EMDX Oakway SD60 9041?

I am pretty sure this was EMDX 3. only EMD 1, 2, and 3 had this style paint where the white on the long hood flares out and up to the air intake and dynamics. a quick look at all the other EMD Oakways and I didnt find any others painted like this one, the white was just a stripe that came all the way forward to the cab with no flare.

Nice shot Mr. Scott, I was wondering if you saw this today, just took it to rubbertown with the 3803.
