For what this information is worth, that light cluster between the number boards requires a description. This was a sort of low tech version of a Mars light, the lenses at the top were set at approximately fifteen degrees from straight ahead and flashed alternately when used. This simulated the rotating motion of a Mars light, without the mechanical motion of the moving lenses that required much maintenance. The red light would come on when the air brakes were put in emergency, warning opposing train crews that the train displaying the red light was making an emergency stop and there could be derailed cars fouling adjacent tracks. The actual headlights are in the low nose of this engine.
