Not only a clean shot of the train, but a very effective depiction of the effect that it has on the crowd. Kudos on one of the most effective shots I've seen from this event....and you didn't have to climb a tree to get it!

Very neat shot John! It shows the reason I did not attend this event.

With every one trying to get a clean shot ( no one in it) This photo shows more what its like.

I had a feeling that it would be kinda crowded (why i stayed home) but that's just insane. I'm really glad I didn't attend this one but thanks for sharing the excellent people shot John

Outstanding shot, John. That's just an insane amount of people, but kudos on being able to capture a clean shot!

I have just one thing to say.. Foamers.. Yup..

Wonderful shot, John. I think it's silly in these events to try to portray the scene as if it were the 1940s again. .. it ain't--and the role of fans in this hobby are as important in the photos as the locomotives themselves. Thanks for looking beyond the machinery!

Mr Ryan, that is a fantastic shot, do you have more photos? Would you share them with us. I'm from Florence, Alabama and I don't get to go to any of the train rides. But have been a fan for years.

I'm with Blair on this one. The Daylight in Michigan with a mixed consist - you captured what was in fact the event on hand. And not only that, but a very impressive composition that shows the excitement generated when several steam engines are brought together for such an event. (Won't see that with diesels!). Looking through the thumbs, I will wager this will be one of the best of the bunch. Superb.

John - Nicely framed shot! The crowd shows just how much the railfans appreciated the 4449's presence in the Michigan area. After chasing the 4449 in the Owosso area, I found that instead of getting up close to rails to experience the 4449, the best photos I got were photos that were taken away from the rails just like yours. Great job.
