I'm glad you put this up, Andrew. I've been "shooting" the WMSR, and have a few photos of the 734 and the barn together, but this view is one I've always liked. Mr Helmstetter has always been a great friend of the Scenic, and many times gave us a nice wave as we rounded the curve. The hundred year old timber framed barn will be sadly missed, as John Helmstetter will miss his pet collie and twelve of his fourteen cattle desteroyed in the fire. He had some insurance, but not enough to cover all the cost of replacement.

Yes, very sad indeed. Mr. Helmstetter is not only a great friend of the Scenic, but also a friend of the photography community, having allowed the organizers of numerous photo freights to cut down trees and brush on his property to allow views like this one of the curve to be captured.
