Nice shot at a classic location with the old "Al Capone" cars--August in the city for sure (psgrs trying to catch a breeze for sure with all those windows open!)

Note that Rock Island 643 is the ancestral E8, erected as EMD demo 952. Other than the road number, the chief spotting feature is the rooftop cooling-coil piping, which lays across all three major roof hatches, a trait shared only by the first production unit, Wabash 1003. On all other E8/E9s, the pipes are confined to the rear engine cooling hatch.
