Mr. Krone's N&W steam photography is simply stunning! This shot was taken from the long-gone "photographer's bridge" on the west side of the summit over Blue Ridge.

Wholly Molly, is it Christmas on RP? Awesome shot, Bob! A gem to share - must have been amazing to see and hear that!

Bob, fantastic photos! Thank you VERY much for posting this series, and of course all the other great oldies you have downloaded on RP.

Keep them coming! It's a shame that I was only 1 year old at this time and couldn't appreciate the last days of steam. I would like to know the total number of coal hoppers the 2 Loco's pulled up over Blue Ridge. Ah, I would love to witness this scene today, if only for 1 time, to hear, smell and feel the power.

Can you tell me exactly where the famous "Blue Ridge Grade" is? East of Roanoke, I know, but beyond that... I've done a fair amount of reading and searching, but I can't seem to find exactly where it is. I'd love to look at it now on Google Maps or Virtual Earth. I wish I was around to have seen these two giants running that line!
