One thing that you don't expect to see is construction equipment clearing the right of way. These machines were "state of the art" In the 1050s, but are collectors items now. There is an Antique Construction Equipment Owners Group, that holds meats to display and operate their machinery. The fact that these are Caterpillar equipment pleases me greatly ! thanks for the posting John.

As a current resident of Caterpillar country I find this shot extremely interesting with the train right there. The modern version of the Cat equipment in the front is made here in Decatur, Illinois.

For commenter three. Doug the machine is called a Motor Grader. The first Graders were horse drawn machines with steel wheels. They required two men to run, one up front to drive the horse or team. A second man was needed at the rear of the machine to raise or lower the blade, also to set the blade angle left or right, another setting raised or lowered either end of the blade. These adjustments were made by turning large hand wheels. Caterpillar made small crawler tractors and County road departments, bought the crawler tractors to replace the horses. Caterpillar and several other manufacturers then built powered graders calling them Motor Patrols. Caterpillar makes the largest Motor Grader of all, that is only sold to large pit mines or oil sand operations and is used to work the haul roads for the largest trucks dump trucks in the world.
