I actually recall seeing traffic coming and going into Norton AFB back during my Air Force days. Nice capture Woody...looks like it is suffering from either recent vandalism or perhaps from any of the recent brush fires in the area.

This brings back memories. I was there from 1975-1979 with many visits thereafter. I even have a shot taken on this line somewhere. Too bad. They've even bulldozed the house I lived in at Norton. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments. If you know of any corrections to my info please let me know. A few years back someone told me they saw this burning and had a photo of it from the west looking east. Then an old timer told me it actually burned twice and probably by vandals or homeless people. I've walked out to the bridge but not on this day.

One of the reasons I like RP, they always bring back memories. I made my first trip to Norton in 73, my last a few years later. Thsnks for capturing something that sooner or later will be gone as the original base is now. Interesting composition too.

That is a great shot of an era long gone! I am wondering if I'm missing something though, as I don't see the described locomotive anywhere

It's a really terrific image, Ken... I've tried to shoot that location myself and not come up with anything anywhere near as striking. Very well done.

Isn't this actually an old Pacific Electric Bridge?

I've submitted a correction to the locomotive. When I submitted it I was sure I left that field blank but I guess I didn't. Thanks for the correction. Secondly I don't know who orginally had this line. This abandoned spur leads back to a current BNSF line. I will be happy to submit a correction if anyone knows for sure which line this is.
