These engines were never renumbered to UP and are currently running to St. Paul, MN.

Kevin, that's cool they weren't renumbered. I looked at 2 websites. One had the whole block of C&NW Dash 9-44CW locomotives that UP acquired renumbered to UP numbers. The other website showed these 2 not renumbered as of the last update of the website. I can't remember the 2 websites or the last update.

These two CNW C44-9W's will not be renumbered nor repainted by UP. They are listed as 'Historical Units' according to the UP roster information that I have noticed over time. The one remaining DRGW tunnel motor that was not renumbered was retired and he too was considered a 'Historical Unit' and was donated to a museum.

That's a wonderful photo Bob. But I wonder, what makes these units "historical"? What is the story? Is it just because it was the last two left in CNW paint because they just hadn't gotten around to the paint shop? Anyone know of a source for why they were listed as historical?
