In this era, there was so much to see and experience. Some of the Southern/Union Pacific SD24/SD24B locomotives would go on to lead a second life after being retired. These locomotives would enter Illinois Central Gulf's infamous Paducah (KY) shops beginning in 1979 and would be numbered ICG 2000-2041. The SD20 program would end in 1982.
