Nice profile shot of an SW100RS, often mistakenly referred to as simply at SW1200. Canadian National Railways had a fleet of these road units, including this one bearing it's original number 1359. She was built by General Motors Division in London Ontario in 1960, retired in March 1999, and subsequently sold to RailLink in 1999. SW1200RS's ride on Flexicoil trucks, suitable for branch line (as in the Prince Rupert Extension) small fuel tanks for weight reduction, oversize number boards fore and aft and multiple unit wiring. As a young man, I rode many a mile on these units, which were poorly assigned to haul varnish from Prince Rupert to Red Pass Junction. Crews hated the rough ride on a 22 foot wheelbase, and after about 10 months, Geeps took over 195/196. Both setups required a dedicated steam generator car.
