Is that a signal up on the utility pole in the background. That is the strangest place I ever saw a signal mounted.

Given the age of many of the SD40's, I'd say the economic downturn has come at a handy time for the Railroads. Less scrap value, but they can more easily replace the 40's with newer power at a slower rate. Setting themselves up for a bigger better road once things start to turn around.

Amazing that those pre-dash-2 SD40s lasted this long; being near or above 40 years old!
