I believe this is an undercutter, ugly but probably not an ancient critter.

Pete is right. This is an undercutter used for cutting under the ties and removing mud and debris.

Pete you are correct, it is an undercutter. It's also not that old, Fairmont Tamper was created in 1994. It's just well used.

What a wild looking critter! A very interesting capture, with a great sky as well.
