Wonderful shot, Tom! THIS is the N&W Bristol Line the way I most remember it: honest to God heavyweight passenger trains behind Southern E-units and FP7s. Trains 45 and 46 would bite the dust in 1966 on this stretch, but the Pelican and Birmingham Special would soldier on until 1970 and 71.

Far too often rail photographers go out of their way to avoid having people intrude in their photographs. The whole point of having passenger trains is to move passengers, and this is an excellent example of that purpose.

I can remember the train station In Glade Spring, Va. and the about is a beautiful pic just wish I had a copy. I can remember stories of Elvis Presley coming in on the train and it stopped at the station and if I recall it was snowing. My cousin went to see the event
