This picture has to be from 1971, the year of Amtrak's creation, which accounts for the hodge-podge consist. That year, though unplanned, I was fortunate enough to be aboard the last, all-maroon, GM&O consist out of St. Louis, complete with heavyweight diner. I detrained at Joliet,and when the train returned, on its southbound leg, the entire consist, except the parlor car and locomotives (still GM&O Es,) was comprised of Union Pacific equipment, with the GM&O cars deadheading back south.
