Did the GM&O ever wash any of their equipment?

No, you must never wash anything. Otherwise those articles about weathering, in MR, would become obsolete.

The important point here is that these two locomotives, GM&O 101 and 101A, represent the first two E7s built. They were turned out in March 1945, for the Alton Railroad, and were among the last to run. (Lower-numbered GM&O E7, 100, was actually built in 1947.) At startup, Amtrak leased some E7s from CB&Q and SCL, while PC ran a few in New Jersey commuter service. Illinois Central, whose examples were probably in the best shape, were retired along with most of the IC's passenger locomotives and equipment.
