I'm a CNW fan and have never seen that scheme before. Thanks for sharing.

Great photo. CNW 1776 was a GP7!

I remember going across this line twice en route to Dodgeville (I have relatives there). The first place was on the beltline hwy after going over both the Ex-Milwaukee Road Fox Lake IL sub (Now WSOR), and the Ex-CNW Harvard Sub (Now UP). The Harvard Sub is weeded over a lot now I remember seeing a couple of trains on it though. The second place was just west of Verona where it crossed then hwy 18. I remember the highway crossing type signals there and the Exempt signs which were up on those signals for the longest time. This segment of line I think was removed in the mid-80's. The old Hwy. 18 is now CTH YZ as 18 bypasses all those small towns. The remainder of the line, which crossed the beltline hwy is now all gone and the main hwy is paved over and i'm thinking they did that within the last 5-10 years. I never saw a train on here though which is kinda disappointing but oh well what can you do.

I like your story DivergingClear1973 , I remember that crossing in madison too, with the exempt signs in the mid 1990s but could tell the line was somewhat still used around town. I only seen one train on it about 1998 coming back into madison, with just a few cars (wsor).
