The track crossing the IC was the original B&O mainline into Chicago. It originally joined the IC main to the northwest at a place called Brookdale. The B&O's South Chicago yard can be seen in the left background. The IC had a coach yard adjacent to the B&O's yard.

This is a very informative photo - I work as a trucker for Home City Ice in this neighborhood and I've been trying to learn more about B&O's trackage (or anyone else's for the matter) in the area. Thanks for sharing.

Another picture which reminds me of growing up in Chicago. I do not remember this exact spot but I do remember that at the station at Ninety-Third Street at the end of the line, there was a single track to the east of the two electrified passenger tracks which crossed Ninety-Third Street and went on southward. I do not know whether or not this track connected with another railroad nor which railroad it connected to.
