Songs about trains are supposed to convey a sense of something dynamic or dramatic about to happen. As "Riding on the City of New Orleans" Johnny Cash sitting in Folsom Prison "And that train keeps on moving and that what bothers me." And The Railroad Lady "Once a Pullman car traveler now the brakeman won't have her." So she is riding on a bus to her home back in Kentucky. So we have some fog here which could pass for "smoke along the tracks" which is a song sung by a guy leaving his woman for a while, he will be back but for now all she will have is smoke along the tracks.
