Alan stole my comment. The high surf really makes it spectacular....and a train to boot. Nice image.

This is what I call an image! Everything has been planned to the finest detail. Unless you are incredibly lucky, a photograph like this almost never happens by chance. The icing on your cake must have been the wonderful breakers, the line of cloud and the perfectly placed red cab of the DMU which provides a striking focal point. Flawless!
p.s. I hate modern traction, but there's always room for an exception. By the way, happy retirement from 'LI' and thanks for the pleasure it gave mso many over the years.

A master of B&W photos, I see you have mastery of the other 4,294,967,040 color tones as well! Superb Brian!

Great shot! I have to wonder how often that surf actually comes over the seawall!

I watched the waves from my house that day (I can see most of the seawall from Torquay - except this short section) and at Teignmouth just down the line, some of the breakers at high tide were half the height of the cliffs. Also because of the easterly winds, it was bitterly cold at times. The waves do come over the seawall and at times can cause havoc. Wonderful photo Brian.

Thank you to everyone for your comments. I can only add that I was frozen after an hour exposed to that wind which made keeping the camera still a problem. You can see just wet rails in front of the train where a breaker had come over shortly before. I had hoped I might have got a shot of a train being soaked but luck did not exended that far!

One of the great rail photography locations of the world and even a little DMU can look spectacular here, the skill is making the most of the location and you have composed and exposed perfectly
