Just to add to this caption, in 1971 this would have been Burlington Northern's Denver Zephyr, which accounts for the lack of a Burlington Route nose herald on 9911. Other roads with E7s in service in 1971included the C&NW, GM&O, IC and SCL, and Amtrak did lease some E7s from GM&O and SCL for a time in 1971. Although the EMD E7 type was the most numerous passenger diesel model ever produced, only one example remains, a Pennsylvania Railroad unit, which is displayed at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania at Strasburg, PA.

At least the 9911-A was saved, and it is the only operational E5 left.
