Notice the square recess in the side of this U25B's nose. This is where the brake wheel used to be, but the Louisville & Nashville, while under the influence of the Atlantic Coast Line, began to remove such appliances from locomotives so equipped, and ordered some new power without it. This practice seemed to end with the Seaboard Coast Line merger, as all power ordered thereafter came with hand brakes.
