Wow - I bet as the crew crested that hill they had no idea if the tracks ahead were clear or not. I'm surprised they run like that. It reminds me of the warning on the back of some semi's "If you can't see my mirrors I can't see you." Well I can't see the crew so I doubt they could see you. Perhaps its just the angle of the shot, but it looks like there virtually running blind to me - an ambulance chasers dream right there

How do they see over it? Great shot.

This is such a great shot with the plow leading the way, heat waves rolling off the engines, and the train coming over the hill. Good job!

Awesome catch Richard, It looks like the engineer can just barely see over the plow, nice hogback too.

As for the train crew seeing over the plow its more of how much of a blind spot the must deal with. In normal operations the blind spot in front of the locomotive is several feet. In this situation the blind spot would just be further down the rails.

This photo is RAILROADING at its best. My vote for photo of the year.

I've never seen a locomotive plow with its own headlights before. I've only seen that on pickups.

That is one of my all time favorite pix. The combination of the plow and the telephoto effect on the hill is just terrific. It is interesting railroad picture and just a neat graphic image.
