What a trio. Alco power rules and if around today would pull EMD or GE units backwards.

The first owner of the Lehigh Valley Alco C-628s was the Monon Railroad which found them to be too hard on their tracks. Monon then traded the C628s back to Alco for Century 420s, two of which were Hi Short Hood units with steam generators for use on The Throughbred, Monons Chicago to Louisville passenger trains.

LV bought eight C628s new from Alco which were LV 625-632. Later, they received nine more which were ex-Monon 400-408 and became LV 633-641. So, while it is true that LV had some ex-Monon C628s, the units depicted here (LV 632, 631 and 627) are all LV originals.
