If with the helpers shoving on the rear I am surpirsed they keep these trains together with all that power on the head end. It only takes about 3 high horse units to get a knuckle on a conventional train. I am sure it was quite a sight and sound when you took this shot.

The tunnel at the top of the pass is approx. 13 mi. from the Livingston yard. The climb begins almost immediately and takes over an hour (no room to get a running start here). That explains all the power.
