I was riding in the third from the last car when this photo was taken. Now I know what we looked like!
I want to encourage all steam fans (particularly from the United States) to head to the UK. The plethora of MAINLINE steam excursions here will blow your lens caps off. Also, these fellows really know how to go fast! The only time this writer has gone 75MPH for long stretches behind steam was here in 2006 and 2007 and 1965. We went 400 miles mostly behind steam, (96 MPH behind diesel wasn't bad either) and were over 25 minutes late at one point But with fast running by the crew of steam locomotive Tangmere, we arrived back in London on time. Kudos to the organizers, The Railway Touring Company for a fantastic trip.
And thank you Glen for the excellent photo.
