At the moment, the track is still in but cut off from McCloud by a large number of stored reefers out around MP 3, East of McCloud. Owner Jeff Forbis was given a year to remove the rail by the STB but there were several environmental and preservation issues to be settled with both the US Forest Service and California Fish and Game. It is very common for the STB to grant extensions in these matters. Even though the track is still in place, I doubt there is any realistic hope of saving the line. The dinner train will continue to operate to Mt. Shasta City from McCloud this year, but if you want to ride or photograph that, you had better not delay. It future is far from certain.
