A good shot showing the human side of railroading. John

What's with the rusting and peeling paint?!?! This unit isn't that old. Or is it just following true SP practice to look like crap almost immediately after delivery?

I'll bet this unit is often the lead unit on its trains - thus during the winter, it has been bucking through the snow piles at every grade crossing. Ice chunks - rocks & who-knows-what gets plowed across the tracks. It wouldn't take long to show some wear. Notice the dent in the pilot right above the right-hand track - it hit something.
