The location is just west of the small Manitoba town of Minnedosa. Minnedosa is a crew change point on the Portage la Priarie to Edmonton 'North' main line. The train is on the Bredenbury Subdivision which runs from Minnedosa to Bredenbury Saskatchewan. The grade at this location is around 2% for about three to four miles.
