Great picture from just prior to the end of the steam age! IS that scaffolding around St. Paul's Cathedral in the background? Does anybody know anything about that?

Yes that is scaffolding around the dome of St.Pauls cathedral which was under repair at the time, not an uncommon sight at Britain's great churches.

Thanks Brian! I'm sort of fascinated by this picture - its not too long ago as in "recent" history but so much has changed since then! I'd love to see a picture from the identical vantage point today... I'm guessing there are quite a few more buildings on the skyline than in this picture!

Superb - an incredible view from 1966. Classic. This photo preceeds me by 26 days, looks like I was grandfathered into the Steam Age! Hallaluah!
