What caused this mess and how many cars were involved?

Wow, just shows when things go wrong, the cars pretty much do what they want behind the amazing force behind all that tonnage! The cars look so rugged until something like this and then they are twisted like aluminum foil. Thanks for sharing and keep up informed of the cleanup if you could.

They'll get real dirty cleaning up this mess.

It was a 140 car train doing 40 mph, derailment started at about car # 11 so there was 130 cars pushing. Approx 36-38 cars are in the pile. At least one of the tracks opened early this morning.

That is the biggest pile up I have ever seen. Thats a nightmare.
