It's interesting seeing this Ohio Central unit with the C&NW colors. I wish someone would use that color scheme again.

Although the Chicago & North Western did roster SD9s, this particular unit is rated at 1800 h.p., like an SD18. It is the result of deturbocharging a Southern Railway 2400 h.p. SD24, by Precision National Corp., who eventually sold several such locomotives to CNW.

The rebuilt Sd is long gone from the Ohio Central, but the digger and cable flats are stored in Conesville, Ohio, near the Conesville power plant, the main destination for most of Ohio Central's coal trains. It is neat to see a photo of the actual train assembled and in working order.
