When I first glanced at this picture I actually thought the unit had caught on fire for some reason not just belching flames out the stack. I've seen a lot of unit's blowing flames out the stacks, ALCo's, GE's, EMD's, and so forth but this is one of the worst ones I've seen. I can just imagine that exhaust manifold has got to be glowing right now.

The ALCO's we had would put out a little flame when they were under a good load, especially at night, they put on a show and really they didn't start to pulling good until the foot long flame started flickering out the stack. When the turbo boost gage would read around 25-27 psi on those cool nights when the air was dense and the sound that those 251 engines would make.... is a sound I really miss...
