Wow - in my own backyard, almost, and I never knew it! Nice photo, Gerald.

Why didn't they demolish or renovate this place? It seems absurd that they would let some old building just rust away unkempt like that. This place should really be turned into a museum!

The terminal building has been renovated into a museum many years ago. It's located in Liberty State Park. Since it's a state park funds usually are short. Some maintenance has been done evident by the fact there are no trees growing just tall weeds. I traveled on many trains thru there steam and diesel. Great Shot, Thanks for the memories.

The main waiting room of the terminal has been restored and now houses the ticket offices for boats to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The twenty track trainshed, on the other hand, has been fenced off and lies in a state of disrepair since being abandoned April 30, 1967.

Excellent shot Gerald for a number of reasons the biggest one to me seems to be the lack of vandalism. How can such a structure survive so long with out any visible Damage? Thank you for posting such a thought provoking image.
