As a locomotive engineer, I can tell ya that this is one sorry cab/control set-up. Desktop control stands are fairly worthless and vibration is an issue. I don't know what Kansas City Southern was thinking when they modified/rebuilt this F9.

And yet it still has an old-style pull cord for the horn... go figure!

Yup,these controls are back killers. We've had more Engineers,(including me)with permanent back troubles from the years of running a train in a un-natural position.

I like running with desktop controls, if you slide the seat up and adjust the back, they're not so bad.

As an Engineer I like the Desktop Controls, I have never had issues with back problems. Just adjust the seat or use a small back pillow if you must.

Some people's (me) knees are too tall to fit under some of them. They're a real pain.

The Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) FL9-AC's were also rebuilt with desktop controls.
