ATSF 40L was renumbered into Santa Fe's 300 Class as the 315L in 1971 and leased to Amtrak. The 315L was repainted into the Yellow-bonnet scheme and used exclusively on Amtrak's Texas Chief until assigned to freight service in July 1973. The 315L was rebuilt to CF7 2517 in June 1974. Nice shot.

Actually, this is less "overkill," those 6 put together only total 9,000 hp - 3 P42s give you 12,600hp!
