Interesting shot. There aren't enough UK industrial railway photos on here. Was this the last time steam was used in the UK? (Besides preserved lines, obviously)

Thanks for your comment. The engine lasted here in intermittent use until September '82. (The date on the photo is wrong - should be 12/81 - corrections have been submitted). I belive I am right in saying this was one of 2 coal board engines still in occasional use in Britain, the other being at Bold Colliery in Lancashire. By coincidence, both worked their last shifts on consecutive days - 22nd (Bold) and 23rd (Wheldale) of that month. Both engines have been preserved. I may post more industrial stuff soon!
