Had no idea this was abandoned now. I saw it on a video once. Where is the new summit crossing now? And why would they keep this for MOW road?

Track 2 is now the summit crossing, via tunnel 41. The old road bed is useful as a MOW road becuase it is an easy way to get into the east portal of tunnel 41 from the west, although there is also road access from east via Donner Lake. While UP has long term plans to replace most of the second track over Donner that was removed by SP, this section is unlikely to get reinstalled due to tight clearances and steeper grade.

That is one of the most gorgeous SP scenes I've ever seen!
Was this alignment originally double tracked? Pity that it isn't even single tracked anymore...
