Ouch! Is this the SpongeBob special? I see his face in the wreckage.

I don't think that is a GP35. None of CNW's GP35s had a nose bell. Most likely it was a GP50. The give-away is the bolt on battery box door. This is a feature of Dash 2 and latter EMDs. Two, the 5051 and the 5096 were both wrecked and retired. One was rebuilt and sold to IC.

After my first post I recalled that one of the CNW's GP15-1s also was wrecked and retired. The CNW 4407 was wrecked at Nekoosa, WI, on 2-12-89 and scrapped by the CNW in 1993. After a check of photos, the GP15-1 also has the bolt on battery box doors. After looking at photos of GP15-1s and GP50s, I noticed that the GP15-1 has only eignt handrail stantions where as the GP50 has nine. Also the GP15-1 has only one short handrail stantion after the blower duct (yellow portion of walkway) where as the GP50 has three. So based on this, I would have to say that this is in fact CNW 4407.

This unit is actually CNW GP15-1 4407 -- as Joel referenced -- which struck a pulpwood truck at a grade crossing at Nekoosa Jct., WI on 12 February 1989 and suffered major cab damage and some frame damage. She was moved to Oelwein shortly after the accident and stored until officially being retired on 26 November 1990. She originally had most of her long hood and main components when moved to Oelwein, but obviously served as a parts source over the years.
