Near to this place is the "Platamon Heritage Railway". It is the coastal part of the old railway axis "Athens - Thessaloniki" between Nei Pori and Panteleimon Beach in South Pieria region (Prefecture of Central Macedonia in the Greek State).
Starting point of the old railway line is the new (year 2004) Railway Station "Nei Pori", where are facilities for automated entry and exit of trains on the old line. In the middle of the route is the Platamon Railway Station, designated as a historic place, and it ends near the Venetian Platamon Castle.
The old line is inactive from year 2004 (active - suspended traffic according to the Network Statement) and it is designated as a monument by the Ministry of Culture. Citizens' initiative to rescue and reopening the old railway line at Platamon try to reopen this line as a museum - tourist railway and as well to serve thousands of swimmers from Larissa who traditionally used the train to swim at Platamon. It is a non-profit group and try to convince the network administrator (OSE) to maintain the line and the railway operator (TRAINOSE) to start regular service.
