Heading to San Diego, we were surprised to find a freight holding the siding in Laguna Niguel, waiting for two Amtrak Pacific Surfliners to get by: AMTK 573 heading west to Los Angeles and AMTK 770 coming up from behind it heading to San Diego.
So, we headed a bit further south to catch it with the Pacific Ocean in the background at San Clemente State Beach (aka Calafia Beach).
Following hot on the heels of Amtrak 770 is BNSF H-BARSDG1-30A, a "high priority" freight heading to San Diego from Barstow. BNSF Dash 9-44CW 5319, ES44C4 6838, Dash 9-44CW 4306, AC4400CW 5618 and GP60 186 (ex-BNSF 8727, née-ATSF 4027) for power.
