For a brief moment as the Pickens Railway's Belton job works the NS interchange on the west side of Anderson, SC, they'll pass through a long abandoned passenger station dating all the way back to 1852. Ihis is a small remnant of what would be a 192 mile mainline connecting Anderson, to Knoxville, TN, chartered as the Blue Ridge Railroad of South Carolina in 1852. By 1877, most of the project had been abandoned with passenger trains only operating between Anderson and Walhalla, SC.
After going through multiple different ownerships under different railroads (the most notable being the Southern Railway) passenger service would eventually cease entirely by the ladder half of 1951. This was by far the number one shot I needed from this chase, and i'm super happy with how it turned out!
Photos of the Pickens Railway with their iconic orange GE U18B “Baby Boat” locomotives. Although looking dirty and on their last leg compared to how they once looked, I was able to get one chase of them in on the Belton Job from Anderson to Honea Path.
