At 1.2 kilometers of elevation, snow at the town of Tehachapi is not too unusual. Thus, it was no surprise to find snow here on this day. (Although, also, a friend was here the day before and clued me in to the weather as well.)
Heading west past the old Tehachapi Station are a trio of BNSF Railway GEVOs: ES44C4 3278, ES44DC 7522 and ES44C4 8346. These locomotives are heading down the mountain to meet up with stalled 68-car train Q-NBYLAC4-18A, powered by BNSF ES44DC 7656 and Dash 9-44CW 1090, which stalled climbing the Tehachapi mountains at Allard. In a few hours they will be on the rear of that train and get it over the summit as it heads from North Bay CA (near Richmond) to Los Angeles. So … possibly a manned helper set on that train? (Those tinted windows on BNSF 8346 made it hard to see if they had a crew or not when it passed us later.)
