What goes around comes around, sorta. My office was about 200 yards away from this spot in 1974. T-6s plied the "two streaks of rust" on the weed-choked right of way of the Chesapeake Western and this unit was working for the N&W, just down the road, and she's still here, as am I. Lacking dynamic brakes, having a snowplow and numerous other little modifications, the old girl still makes that fluffy stuff Alco is known for. And I finally go to see this one live again. July 5, 1895 CW moved its first load of freight and although its existence is merely on paper today, its roots run deep. 130 years and still moving freight. The CW operates as a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern.
