Breaking It In
Rolling Stock Solutions is a Boston-based startup that rebuilds and leases former Amtrak F40s in a partnership with CAD Industries and Metro-East Industries. Its launch customer, the MBTA Commuter Rail, has committed to leasing 6 units as supplemental locomotives for when the HSP46s are sent off for overhaul. When the first unit, #1002, entered service, it ran on a doubleheader for a week or so just in case something broke.
